  • **This event has been cancelled due to the team not being well, we will aim to do this again very soon. However, if you are a Young Adult Carer and need some advice, please get in touch via email: YACService@leicestercollege.ac.uk or call: 0116 224 2240.**

Caring for someone requires time and energy. Some of the responsibilities which a Young Adult Carer may have is to regularly and routinely:

    - Cook and clean

    - Support with eating, dressing and medication

    - Give physical help to someone who is disabled or ill

    - Take them to regular appointments

    - Provide emotional support

    - Go to work to provide financial support to the family

A Young Adult Carer can struggle to set time aside for personal study. They may need to provide care and support to their close ones during the night as well as during the day. With household members dependant on them they are not able to solely focus on their education like their peers. These responsibilities can also affect their own health as well as their attendance and punctuality. Consequently, these factors will impact their learning and their success on the course.

    We have a special live stream with members of our Youth Adult Carer’s Society who will be talking through;

    - Who is classed as a young adult carer?

    - What support the college can give to a young adult carer?

    - Information on key external agencies that offer support to students who are young adult carers.

All sessions are subject to change, please keep checking back for updates.

  • Join Gateway Sixth Form College on Wednesday, 21st April for a Virtual Open Day at www.gateway.ac.uk.

This is an opportunity for young people and their loved ones to find out more about what Gateway College can offer and have a taste of college life.  There will be lots of video content and information created by staff and students about courses, support and enrichments which will remain on the website afterwards.  In addition to this, for one afternoon only, there will be live ‘drop in’ sessions with our Careers Lead and Advisers from our Student Services Team to answer any questions you may have about courses, entry requirements, career and progression pathways, programmes of study and enrolment 2021.

This has been such an unusual year and Gateway staff understand that there is a lot of anxiety and uncertainty about what the next few months hold.  They will be available to offer support and guidance.

Sessions will take place between 2pm and 5.30pm.  To take part in any of these or to watch the videos and information go to www.gateway.ac.uk.

It’s not too late to apply and the event is open to all.

  • When picking a college for your further education studies it's important to make sure the campus feels right to you, whether that is after your completing your GCSEs, A levels, BTECs or if you are returning to learning – there’s no substitute to visiting the college and discovering the range of courses we have to offer.

For a limited time only we will be giving you the opportunity to tour our campuses and learn all about the place you may be studying. The tour will consist of a presentation delivered by our events team, followed by a tour of our facilities.

Unfortunately, as these tours will be taking place in the summer months we will not be able to guarantee the opportunity to speak to a member of curriculum staff, however, our team is happy to answer and assist with any questions or concerns you have, and if they are unable to they are happy to pass your details on to a member of the faculty.

COVID-19 NOTICE - PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING

Due to COVID-19, we have had to limit guests on our tours. You can book a maximum of two places on the tour and both attendees must be from the same household. Please make sure you book tickets for each person attending e.g. two tickets must be booked for a student and a parent. You must have the NHS Track and Trace app installed on your phone and be able to scan the QR code in reception when you arrive for the tour. You can download the app here: https://www.nhs.uk/apps-library/nhs-covid-19/ We have the right to refuse attendance if those who haven't booked turn up to the tour.

In order to maintain social distancing and ensure the safety and wellbeing of both you and our staff, we have put certain measures in place on our tours.

    • We have limited our tours to a maximum of 10 people to ensure we can adhere to social distancing.
    • All visitors will be required to wear masks whilst on campus unless you are medically exempt from wearing one (please bring this certificate with you).
    • Our campuses have been set up for social distancing including one way systems.
    • Hand sanitiser stations having been set up around our campuses and are always stocked for use.
    • We have set up a check-in point on all campuses as part of the NHS Track and Trace.

If you display any of the symptoms of COVID-19 within 2 weeks of your tour you will need to cancel your booking and rebook at a later date when you are well. The coronavirus symptoms are:

    • A high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
    • A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
    • A loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

It is important you arrive on time. In line with social distancing and spending minimal time on campus, if you arrive any more than 10 minutes late we are unable to accommodate a tour and you will need to rebook.

  • Earn your way into your career with an apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is a perfect opportunity for those who are looking to gain the skills required for a job whilst working for a reputable employer. Not all students enjoy being in a school environment full time and as an adult, you may be looking to acquire a new skilled job without having to put yourself at risk financially, if either of the above is the case then you should consider applying for an apprenticeship.

Here at Leicester College, we offer a wide range of apprenticeships in numerous job sectors ranging from level 2 to level 4 and our team are on-hand to make sure you are prepared and aware of the opportunities you can apply for.

Join us for our drop-in day on 12 August and 13 August 2021 to discover the range of apprenticeships we have at Leicester College. Our specialist apprenticeships team will be on hand to talk through options with you. There’s no need to book: staff will be available between 10am and 2pm and can help you with advice on applying, and other things such as CVs, interview advice and even on hand to discuss the apprenticeships levy with any employers looking to take on an apprentice.

Apprenticeships have no start date like courses, they are available to apply for all year round. Now is the prime time for you to start looking at our apprenticeship offer:

    • Business and Administration
    • Construction
    • Engineering and Manufacturing
    • Hair Professional and Barbering
    • Health and Science
    • *NEW* Hospitality and Catering (starting January 2022)

We’re proud at Leicester College to have established relationships with local and national businesses that recruit apprentices. We currently work with a wide range of employers including William Davis, NHS, EHSmith and JDRM Dental. Did you know as a business you can take advantage of the government apprenticeship levy scheme to take on an apprentice – why not pop along and speak to the team about this scheme and how you can be part of educating the next generation.

Don’t want to wait? Contact our apprenticeships team today by email or calling 0116 2242240

  • Are you or your child in year 11? Discover why a T level could be the right choice for you next year.

At our Freemen’s Park Campus we will be talking to you about the fantastic opportunities our new T level courses bring to the next generation of workers. We’ll go through what T levels we are offering, assessments, industry placements and progression routes after completing the course.

Following this, we will give you the chance to speak with curriculum staff who will give further insight into the courses.

For T levels which started in September 2021 (Construction, Health, and Science, Digital and Education and Childcare) we may have student ambassadors from these courses available on the night speak about their experience so far.

This event is exclusively for those interested in our T level courses. If you’re interested in one of our vocational/BTEC courses you should book onto the October or November Open Events.

    What to expect

We have a choice of four time-slots on the evening which you can book. During each session you'll be given a presentation which will give you an overview of T levels. This will be followed by a Q&A session and then finally the chance to explore each of our subjects which offer T levels. Here you'll be able to talk to tutors and get more information about the specific courses.

    T levels from September 2022

From September 2022 we will be running T level programmes in the following areas

    • Construction
    • Digital and IT
    • Education and childcare
    • Engineering and manufacturing
    • Health and science
    • Management and administration

T levels are only for people who are aged 16-18 on the 31 August of the year they start the course. Adults cannot study a T level.

Tickets are limited to 2 people per booking.
